Dear colleague:

WTTW is proud to announce the PBS/NPS premiere of Soundstage: 1501-1513, the ground-breaking primetime HD concert series on PBS beginning January 10th, 2008.  Featuring such rock greats as Tom Petty and John Fogerty, the hour-long HD music performances with cutting-edge surround sound, offer viewers the experience of 10th row seating before an arena show. Seven programs, Soundstage 1501-1507, kick off the winter 2008 release starting on January 10th; six programs, Soundstage 1508-1513, make up the summer 2008 lineup that includes Bon Jovi.  Look for its rollout in June 2008.

After its impressive run from 1974-1985, Soundstage, returned to PBS in, 2003.  In its first incarnation, Soundstage received widespread critical acclaim and featured the artists that defined the era, including Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Al Green, the Doobie Brothers, Harry Chapin, Dionne Warwick, the Temptations, and Kenny Loggins, among others.

Since the show has been reintroduced, performers have included the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Joss Stone, Wilco, Sonic Youth, the All American Rejects, KT Tunstall, Train, Alison Krauss, Alanis Morissette, and more. 2008 promises to keep viewers rocking as they hear classics and what’s new in the world of rock and music.
The majority of the concerts are filmed before small studio audiences, at WTTW’s Grainger Studio in Chicago.  Here is the winter lineup:

Soundstage: 1501 - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers:  Live from Gatorville, Pt. 1
Catch Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in this special two-part Soundstage performance as they return to Gainesville, where it all started, to play their first hometown show in 13 years. They perform their classics "Free Fallin'," "Last Dance with Mary Jane" and "I Won't Back Down,” and just when you think it can't get any better, heartbreaker Stevie Nicks joins Petty on stage for a duet of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around."  Other highlights include “Listen to Your Heart” and the Traveling Wilbury’s classic “Handle With Care.” (#1501, 1/10/08, 2200-2300, HDTV, Dolby Stereo)

Soundstage: 1502 - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers:  Live from Gatorville, Pt. 2
For everyone—Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and fans alike—Live from Gatorville is an electrifying evening. The band performs songs spanning three-decades, such as their rarely played gems and songs from Petty's recent solo album, Highway Companion.  Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are just getting warmed up at the beginning of the second hour as the volley of hits keep coming, with “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” “Running Down a Dream” and “You Wreck Me.” They are joined once again by legendary Stevie Nicks, for several songs that include "Learning to Fly," and the concert closer "American Girl." (#1502, 1/17/08, 2200-2300, HDTV, Dolby Stereo)

Soundstage: 1503 - Lifehouse
Chart topping is a given for pop-rock band Lifehouse. Best known for their top singles “Hanging by a Moment,” and ballad “You and Me,” which spent a record 60 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart, Lifehouse next returns to the basics with Who We Are. Jason Wade’s lyrics address a wide range of diverse themes that resonate with audiences while they rock to the melodies.  Lifehouse’s performance also includes Who We Are’s twangy lead single “First Time.” (#1503, 1/24/08, 2200-2300, HDTV, Dolby Stereo)

Soundstage: 1504 - Daughtry
(#1504, 1/31/08, 2200-2300, HDTV, Dolby Stereo)

Soundstage: 1505 - John Fogerty
(#1505, 2/07/08, 2200-2300, HDTV, Dolby Stereo)

Soundstage:  1506 – Matchbox 20

Named “Best New Band” in a Rolling Stone 1997 reader’s poll, Matchbox Twenty has garnered five Grammy nominations and three American Music Award nominations, while Rob Thomas has earned three Grammy Awards, 11 BMI Awards, and has been twice named Billboard’s Songwriter of the Year.
(#1506, 2/14/08, 2200-2300, HDTV, Dolby Stereo)

Soundstage:  1507 –  TBA

WTTW has some exciting news regarding underwriting.  Soundstage has just signed MasterCard as a national underwriter for the next five years!  Together Soundstage and MasterCard are bringing viewers truly “priceless” musical experiences and Soundstage is now talking to such luminaries as Lenny Kravitz, Earth Wind and Fire, Coldplay, Kenny Chesney, Bonnie Raitt, The Cure, The Fray for future programs. MasterCard’s plans include considerable promotion for the series in TV print, and online.  Soundstage is part of MasterCard’s summer music campaign and sizeable media buy, which will culminate with a truly spectacular musical event.  WTTW will be making tickets available to stations for this special event.  In addition, MasterCard intends to make local ad buys in many markets.

Soundstage
is produced by WTTW National Productions and HDReady.  Joe Thomas/HDReady is the producer/director and Nicolette Ferri is executive producer. Parke Richeson is Executive-in-Charge of Production. The series is distributed by PBS and underwritten by MasterCard International, Circuit City and Samsung.  Local underwriting is permitted to non-competitors of the national underwriters.

Please contact me if you have questions.  A fact sheet follows.

Very truly yours,
