Dear colleague:
Crossing Lines
is a 30-minute documentary about an Indian American woman’s struggle to stay
connected to India
after the loss of her father. It provides viewers with glimpses into
Indira Somani’s life, first growing up in the Midwest
and later on the East Coast. It also takes the audience on her journey to
India,
where Indira visits her father’s extended family for the first time after his
death. We hope you’ll take
the NETA feed on
July 13th.
Capturing the universal immigrant
story of balancing assimilation while maintaining cultural identity with the support of home
movies, photos and thoughtful commentary, Crossing
Lines reveals journalist Indira Somani’s excitement, fears,
struggles and hopes as she encounters new people and new places steeped in their traditional pasts and (sometimes) emerging futures. Like
most second generation ethnic Americans, Indira has struggled with identity
issues and has led “two lives”: both an American life socially and an
Indian life at home,
because of her father’s immense love for India and Indian culture. Crossing Lines explores Indira’s attempt to stay
connected to Indian culture and her extended family after the loss of her
father. It is the story of how one daughter pays tribute to her father in
all that he has taught her about India, Indian culture and family.
Crossing Linesis produced
by Leena Jayaswal and Indira Somani. It is distributed by NETA.
